NBA 2K12 [Larry Bird Cover] (PlayStation 3)

Been putting off buying this for a while…well now, the wait is over.

Review: In the few games that I have been able to play so far, 2K12’s handling is quite similar to its predecessor 2K11—but still manages to offer something new (What that is exactly, I do not yet know.  I’ll get back to you guys on that one.  However, I will say this, it seems harder to shoot from downtown and call a generic pick-and-roll).

The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor by Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga (Paperback)

“Now let’s see…Rise of the Governor…Rise of the Governor…Rise of the Governor.  Ah! Heeeere we go.” - Tedi31

Turns out this was the last of five copies that hit my local bookstore.  ”A hot book” is certainly an understatement.

Premise: Who is Brian Blake and what circumstances set him on the path to becoming “The Governor.”

The Governor was voted as Wizard Magazine’s “Villain of the Year in 2006.

Ghostbusters: Walter Peck Action Figure (MattyCollector)

“Exactly what are you a doctor of, Mr. Venkman?” - Walter Peck (William Atherton)

To most movie aficionados, the name William Atherton may not exactly ring any bells.  But bring a few of the iconic characters he has played over the years into the conversation—like the “A$$hole” Walter Peck (featured) who served the containment unit restraining order in Ghostbusters (1984) or the ego-driven news reporter Richard “Dick” Thornburg who tests the patience of Holly McClane in Die Hard (1988)—people remember that.

So when news broke out that MattyCollector would be releasing a Walter Peck figure earlier this year (after some delays, it was eventually released in May, 2010), I was ecstatic!

After all, it’s not everyday that you can add a bonafide A$$hole to your collection!

Indiana Jones Mighty Muggs (2008)

Originally costing a shade under $20, This LucasFilm licensed Might Muggs vinyl has been described as “the ultimate in cool, cute, and collectible.”  In reality, it doesn’t do a whole lot except take up space and if you are lucky—hold something, like an accessory (e.g., whip, fiery heart, scimitar, sword, or monkey).

Indiana Jones, Mola Ram, and the Cairo Swordsman are currently available (and discounted!) in the local market.

Photo: I’ve always been a big Indiana Jones fan who collects everything officially licensed “Jones.”  However, when it comes to Lego and Mighty Muggs, I’ve backed off due to their exuberant price tags.

Well, that changed with the 40% off tag on Henry Jones Jr. (photo), Mola Ram, and the Cairo Swordsman.

Question now is…should I also pick up Mola Ram and the Swordsman from this discontinued line?

Bandai’s 1/250 Macross Fighter Collection (Series 1)

Gashapon’s or capsule toys have grown on me since my purchase of a Star Wars’ AT-AT a couple of years ago at a local toys, hobbies, and collectibles convention.  These Macross Valkyrie gashapon’s however are the smallest I’ve ever purchased at 1/250 scale.  

Among the Valkyrie that I added to my collection were: VF-1J (Red trim) (Hikaru Ichijo’s Use), VF-1A (Blue trim) (Maximilian Jenius’ Use), VF-1J (Red) (Mayor Milia’s Use).

Bought during the 9th Philippine Toys, Hobbies, and Collectibles Convention 2010 held in the Megatrade Hall, Megamall last June 19, 2010.

Hasbro’s Star Wars Unleashed figures (2002-2007)

Due to its unique take in more than thirty characters in the Star Wars Universe, the Hasbro Star Wars Unleashed line was initially criticized by purists in 2002.  But with limited stocks, the popularity of these figures soon soared and became a fan favorite to a number of adult collectors.

In late 2005 to early 2006, I purchased several Star Wars Unleashed figures from a fellow enthusiast and have since began putting together my own collection.

Here are the Unleashed Chewbacca (2004) and Unleashed Luke Skywalker (Return of the Jedi) (2003) that I scored at the 9th Philippine Toys, Hobbies, and Collectibles Convention 2010 held in the Megatrade Hall, Megamall last June 19, 2010.
